Whenever I hear the name pattani sundal or prepare this sundal,i remember my childhood where my parents would take us to the beach near our house. The vendors used to tell "Thenga,manga pattani sundal".The name itself explains the ingredients used.It`s a perfect blend of all the ingredients that gives it an excellent taste.
Ingredients:
Pattani / peas - 2 cups
Mustards seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad dhals - 1/4 tsp
Red chilly - 2 or 2 nos( depending upon size)
Curry leaves - a few
Grated coconut -2 tsbp
Method:
Soak the peas the previous night.I am using frozen peas to make this sundal so there`s no need to soak them.Cook the peas in microwave with little water for 30 seconds and drain the water.Now heat a kadai and add oil,mustard seeds,red chilly, urad dhal and curry leaves.When the mustard starts to splutter,add the cooked peas,salt and saute for a minute.Turn off the stove and add grated coconut.You can even add a tsp of lemon juice and chopped raw mango.
