This upma is very simple and easy to make yet delicious too.
Ingredients:
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal / ulutham paruppu - 1/2 tsp
Red chilly - 1 small( spilt) / green chilly - 1 small (chopped)
Cashewnuts / mundiriparuppu - 4 or 5 nos (optional)
Ginger = 1 small (finely chopped)
Curry leaves - few
Semiya / vermicelli -1 cup
Salt - to taste
Method:
Heat a little oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds and when it splutters,add urad dhal,red chilly / green chilly,curry leaves,chopped ginger,cashewnuts and saute for 2 minutes..Now add 2 to 3 cups of water & salt.When the water begins to boil,slowly add the Semiya / Vermicelli while whisking continuously in order to avoid lumps. Turn off the stove when the vermicelli are cooked.You can even add chopped onions( along with red chillies) or even squeeze half-a-lemon( before serving),if you like.
